Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a silver star bearing a green serpent entwined on a silver staff superimposed on a maroon cross crosslet, and arched over the top point of the star a blue scroll inscribed "BE THE BEST" in silver letters.

Symbolism
Maroon and white/silver are the colors traditionally associated with the Army Medical Corps.  Green denotes growth and vitality.  The maroon cross crosslet reflects medical aid and assistance, compassion and zeal.  The staff and serpent are adapted from the staff of Aesculapius, the mythological god of medicine and represents life giving powers.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 17 January 1990.
